Our boy @jakewhorton1989 nailing a bar muscle up after months of persistent practice and hard work. The guy shows up 5-6 days a week with a good attitude and is always eager for more! Also, have you noticed how clean the gym has been? You can thank him for that! Jake works a full time job for his family, goes to school, and STILL manages to make it in the gym to keep the place tighty. Needless to say, we appreciate you Jake! Thanks for making HAC. A great place to train

Got the bar going up, on a Tuesday....... • Power cleans - a staple in our programs @hidden_alley_crossfit. Why? Power cleans are an awesome full body exercise that increase overall strength and power. They require a great amount of control, coordination, and mobility to perform perfectly. We like to learn the power clean through a series of progressions: (1) front squat (2) Hang power clean (3) power clean • Learn the basic positions and establish a general understanding of how to hold the bar (hook grip, knuckles down), how to set up under the bar (neutral spine, hips higher than the knees yet lower than the shoulders), how to properly pull the bar from the ground (hips and shoulders rise at the same time), and how to receive the bar (quarter squat). Once we have established a competence for the basics, increase the speed. Once speed is met, increase the load

Big things happening @hidden_alley_crossfit! The first, and most necessary, is appointing Courtney Hogan (@redbottomsandbarbells) as our new MANAGER! We couldn’t be more excited for the energy Courtney is bringing to our community, and the organization she brings to our operations! We know with growth comes change, and we knew that the best person to help us through this was Court. Be sure to congratulate her next visit! We couldn’t do things fitness thing without her

To the “older” population out there @squat_university ・・・ The minute you stop lifting weights is the moment you take one step closer to not being able to lift anything at all. Sure things change as we age. Things start to break down a bit. Injuries add up. You may have to work around certain positions at 65 that you could easily move into at 25 but that doesn’t mean you just hang up the workout shoes all together & call it quits.? . As a physical therapist I hear it far too often, “I used to be able to lift, but I can’t anymore.” You shouldn’t stop training for strength & power just because you’re no longer competing in a sport, you just transition to competing in LIFE.?? . There have been numerous studies and articles written on how muscle loss and weakness is positively correlated with death and a shorter life span. Lifting weights with good technique and good programming will improve core strength, increase muscle mass/power/strength, increase your resiliency to injuries and improve your life expectancy.??Never forget, exercise is the best medicine. __________________________________________
